WHO MAY BE QUALIFIED FOR LASIK?
- People who are at least 18 years of age and have had stable vision for at least one year.
- People with no corneal diseases (i.e. severe eye dryness), other eye diseases (i.e. retinal degeneration) or any other complicating systemic problems which may affect the eye's healing process (i.e. SLE, Sjogren's, or other immune related deficiencies).
- Women who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have a complete and detailed understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the surgery, and have realistic expectations of the outcomes
- To make sure that you are a good candidate, you would need to undergo a comprehensive eye examination.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR AN EYE EXAMINATION?
- Abstain from wearing contact lenses at least 14 days if you are a soft contact lens user, 30 days if you are a rigid gas permeable lens user. During this period, the person receiving treatment can wear spectacles instead. This is mainly because contact lenses come into direct contact with the cornea. After wearing them for a long period, the shape of the cornea may alter, and time is needed for it to get back to its natural shape. By not allowing enough time for the eye to readjust itself, the examination readings may not be accurate.
- Be prepared to spend between 2-3 hours for the examination

WHAT DOES THE EYE EXAM INCLUDES PRIOR TO LASIK SURGERY?
- New patient registration
- Detailed information about LASIK through our multimedia presentation. This also includes viewing an example of the consent form.
- Measurement of your pupil sizes.
- Corneal Topography (mapping of your cornea) with the OPD Scan
- Autorefraction (computerized measurement)
- 1st Refraction ( prescription measurement)
- Instillation of pupil dilating eye-drops. The dilating medicine takes full effect after 30 minutes of dilating and it will cause burriness which normally last 4-6 hours.
- 2nd Refraction ( prescription measurement)
- Final evaluation by your prospective surgeon.
- Arrangement for transportation
One of the steps taken in the eye examination procedure, is to use an eyedrop to dilate the pupil. As a result of this, you will experience blurriness in vision. Moreover, the following symptoms may as well occur:
- Dizziness
- Inability to endure bright lights, which can be remedied by wearing sunglasses
These symptoms will affect vision for 4-6 hours; therefore driving is not encouraged while these symptoms still exist. Please make sure that you have someone drive you to the center and back.

HOW LONG DOES THE LASIK PROCEDURE TAKE?
Each procedure takes only a few minutes on each eye but you will need to be at the centre for a few hours to ensure all pre- and post-operative checks are carried out. [back to top] |

|
|
| |
HOW SOON AFTER THE PROCEDURE CAN I DRIVE?
Most people have vision that is legal for driving without glasses on the day of surgery. However we would recommend that you do not drive for a day or two after surgery. [back to top] |

DO I NEED TO TAKE TIME AWAY FROM WORK?
As most patients can expect 90% of visual recovery within 24 hours, you can return to work the day after your procedure. Minor visual fluctuations may occur during the first few weeks.

WHAT ARE THE GUIDELINES I NEED TO DO BEFORE THE SURGERY THAT CAN HELP ENSURE A SAFE AND ACCURATE PROCEDURE?
- No contact lenses in the operative eyes for at least 3 days (for soft contact lens) and at least 7 days (for hard or RGP lens) prior to surgery.
- No perfume, deodorant, cream lotions, or any kind of scents.
- No make up. These products along the eyelashes may increase the risk of infection during and after surgery.
- There are generally no restrictions on eating or taking medications before or on your surgery day. However, please advise us of any medication you are taking.

WHAT IF I CAN'T KEEP MY EYES STILL ENOUGH OR IF I BLINK DURING THE PROCEDURE?
We use a small device to prevent the eyelids blinking. We have an active eye tracker which detects even microscopic eye movement and can redirect the laser beam as required.

|

WILL MY VISION BE CORRECTED FOREVER?
Once the cornea has been modified it tends to stay modified permanently. There can be occurrences of regression in the first three months, which can be corrected with an enhancement procedure. The vast majority of corrected eyes remain stable, permanently correcting near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism and presbyopia. [back to top] |

WHAT SHOULD I DO AFTER SURGERY?
On the day after surgery, take a lot of rest. Try to keep the eyes closed as much as possible. Leave the sunglasses covering the eyes until the postoperative visit at the center the following day.
Please beware that there are some symptoms that may occur immediately after the procedure and on the first night after LASIK surgery.
- You may feel some irritation, similar to having dust in your eyes or wearing old contact lenses.
- Patients can experience tearing in varying amounts. It is perfectly normal, in some extreme cases, for patients to have a continuous flow of tears for 2-3 hours. These patients may feel a stinging sensation, lid heaviness, and have difficulty opening their eyes during this time.
- Some patients may experience itchiness, and can be extra sensitive to light.
- Some patients may feel pain, which can be alleviated by taking 1-2 Paracetamol tablets (500mg.) every 4-6 hours.

WHAT ARE THE FIRST DAY SERVICES AFTER SURGERY?
- The eye's refractive power is tested without the aid of refractive lenses.
- You later will be examined by the surgeon.
- You may go home
